African Ndop Cloth: I thought it was mud cloth.
Simply stated, this is an Indigo resist Bamileke Ndop cloth from Cameroon and they are not common textiles.

Resist-stitched, indigo-dyed Ndop cloth is used for clothing and ritual ceremonies. It is made from handwoven strips of cotton and dyed with natural indigo with raffia used to tie off the tribal and geometric patterns you see here. You will still find bits of raffia stuck in the cloth! (See photo 3) The raffia does cause some amber color staining here and there.
From the Bamileke of the grasslands of Cameroon. Made between the 1980s and '90s.

This cloth is soft enough to wear as it was originally a skirt. Use as a wall hanging like a piece of art, or drape over a sofa back, or display as a bed scarf. I think it's much too beautiful to cut into pillow covers, but it's up to whomever wishes to be the proud new owner of this textile. Lovely drape and almost a terry cloth-like quality.

I have laundered this item so it's very clean and ready for use. It was mended were needed.

51" length x 20" wide: This is a half width of what was a full width Bamileke Ndop cloth. Not damaged, simply divided to make a more affordable piece.
100% cotton, hand loomed and hand-dyed, gentle wash, line dry.

I want my customers to be completely satisfied with their purchases so please message me with any questions as this vintage item is not returnable.
