Mud cloth, also called bogolan, is an African handmade textile. Cotton is handwoven into narrow strips then sewn together to make a wider cloth. The textile is then dyed and hand painted with organic materials including fermented mud and plant materials.

What size is it?
Authentic African mud cloth is not available by the yard. Mud cloth is sold in large pieces. Each piece is approximately 62 inches long x 19 to 20 inches wide. Size of individual pieces will vary due to the hand made nature of the cloth.

What should I expect?
Mudcloth is a handmade textile and each piece is one of a kind. Imperfections in mud cloth should be expected. Uneven weaves, slubs, stitching flaws, plant fibers, over dye, and paint smears are part of their charm. Length ends are raw edges,

How do I care for the textile?
I recommend dry clean, or washing in delicate cycle, or hand washing. Excess dye and dye transfer is possible even though every available piece has been laundered for you.
